The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has officially taken possession of a 753-unit housing estate in Abuja, formerly owned by embattled ex-CBN governor Godwin Emefiele.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said the estate was handed over by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at its headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, commended the EFCC for its efforts in asset recovery and anti-corruption, noting that the reclaimed property would be put to productive use for the benefit of Nigerians.
“This marks a significant milestone in ensuring recovered assets serve public good,” Dangiwa said. “The Ministry, in collaboration with the EFCC, will conduct a joint inspection to assess the estate’s structural integrity and suitability for habitation.”
He added that the housing units would be sold through a transparent, competitive process—open to the public and for special government needs—via the Renewed Hope Portal.
EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, emphasized the importance of transparency in asset recovery. “We must ensure recovered assets are not looted again. Their use must be visible and beneficial to Nigerians,” he said.
