INEC denies rumours of voter registration resumption date

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked reports claiming it has scheduled May 27, 2025, as the date for the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, including related services such as voter transfer and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

In a statement issued on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, described the circulating message as false and misleading.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public that it has not yet announced any date for the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration, transfer, or replacement of lost Permanent Voter Cards,” the statement read.

The Commission urged Nigerians to disregard the anonymous message being shared online and emphasized that any official announcement regarding the CVR will be made through its verified social media handles and other official communication channels.

“In line with its tradition, the Commission will publicly announce the date for the resumption of the CVR at the appropriate time. The full details will also be shared via our official social media platforms,” it added.

INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and cautioned the public against relying on unverified sources for electoral information.
