The Nasarawa State Police Command has reported the killing of a notorious kidnapper in Akwanga Local Government Area.
In a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Lafia, Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the operation’s success, which involved a joint patrol team comprising police personnel, the military, and local vigilantes. Together, they neutralized the leader of a notorious kidnapping and robbery gang operating in the area.
The operation took place on Friday, March 14, around 10:00 p.m., when security forces tracked down the suspect, identified as Honor. Nansel described Honor as a well-known armed robber and kidnapper who had been on the police’s wanted list for various crimes.
The suspect was intercepted near the Akwanga Central Mosque while riding a motorcycle. He was fatally shot when he attempted to flee arrest.
During a search of the area, security personnel recovered a Beretta pistol without a serial number and 12 rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
According to Nansel, one of Honor’s accomplices managed to escape with gunshot wounds. A manhunt is currently underway to capture the fleeing suspect.
The deceased’s body has been transported to the Akwanga General Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Nansel further reported that Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, commended the security operatives for their professionalism and successful collaboration. He encouraged them to continue their effective work in combating criminal activity in the state.
The police spokesman also reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning criminals to cease their unlawful activities or face decisive consequences.
