On Monday, the United States released its list of eligible countries for the 2025 Visa Waiver Program (VWP), with some notable exclusions and additions.
The United Kingdom, which had previously been part of the program, was excluded this time, although it remains eligible under specific conditions. Additionally, no African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, or South Africa, are on the updated list.
While most of the countries in the VWP remain unchanged, the addition of Romania marks a significant development. The U.S. has also placed increased emphasis on security measures, prioritizing countries with strong diplomatic ties and robust border security standards.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs, the Visa Waiver Program allows citizens or nationals of participating countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business for up to 90 days without needing a visa. However, travelers must have valid approval through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before traveling.
The 2025 Visa Waiver Program introduces policy updates and revisions, making it easier for millions worldwide to travel to the U.S. for business, tourism, and transit without a visa. The updated list now includes 40 countries whose citizens are eligible for visa-free entry.
