The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed support for the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, hoping it will bring an end to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The agreement, following 15 months of conflict, provides relief not only for Israeli hostages but also for Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.

In a statement released on Monday, signed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Nigerian government acknowledged the significance of the deal in facilitating the delivery of vital humanitarian aid to the region. It also commended the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in mediating the ceasefire and guaranteeing its implementation.

The Nigerian government called on all involved parties to maintain the peace process and ensure the successful execution of the subsequent phases of the agreement. Furthermore, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution as the key to achieving lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.

The statement concluded: “The Federal Government of Nigeria welcomes the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Nigeria also welcomes the supply of essential aid and relief materials that the peace deal facilitates.

We urge all stakeholders to build on the momentum of peace and work towards the successful implementation of the second and third phases of the agreement, and reassert our support for a two-state solution as the pathway to a just and lasting peace for both Palestine and Israel, and the wider region.”
