At least seven people were killed when a light aircraft crashed on Sunday in a remote, forested area of Jalisco, western Mexico, local authorities reported.

The aircraft, a Cessna 207, was en route from La Parota in the neighboring state of Michoacán when it went down. According to Jalisco’s Civil Protection agency, the crash site is located in an area that is difficult to access.

Initial reports from authorities at the scene confirmed a preliminary death toll of seven, although the victims have not yet been identified.

“A fire was extinguished and safety measures were taken to prevent further damage,” the agency stated on social media.

Authorities are awaiting the arrival of forensic investigators to recover the bodies and confirm whether there are additional victims.
