Members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) convened for an in-person meeting at the Forum’s Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday evening.
Fifteen governors, predominantly from the All Progressives Congress (APC), were present at the meeting by the time of this report’s filing.
Among the attendees were Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, elected under the Labour Party (LP), and Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, representing the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), making them the only opposition governors in attendance.
Details of the meeting’s agenda were not disclosed to journalists as of press time. However, for several weeks, the governors have been grappling with the tax reform bills presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.
The new tax legislation introduced by the Tinubu administration has sparked widespread controversy, drawing sharp criticism and strong opposition from various quarters, including the 36 state governors who form the National Economic Council (NEC).
Additionally, the 19 northern governors have categorically rejected parts of the bills, calling for their withdrawal from the National Assembly.
