Gov Okpebholo appoints Oshiomhole’s son as commissioner, names new SSG

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole as the new Commissioner for Health. In addition, Barrister Musa Ikhilor has been named the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), while Honourable Samson Osagie has been appointed as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

The appointments were announced in a statement on Tuesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua. According to the statement, the nominations of Oshiomhole and Osagie will be submitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for confirmation.

Profile of Edo’s new SSG: Barrister Musa Ikhilor

Born on August 6, 1980, at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Barrister Musa Ikhilor is a seasoned legal professional with a strong background in legislative affairs. He earned his LL.B (Second Class Upper Division) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2008, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009 after completing his B.L. at the Nigerian Law School.

Ikhilor holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in Telecommunications Law from Ahmadu Bello University, awarded in 2017. With over 11 years of experience in legislative drafting, parliamentary administration, and lawmaking, he has worked extensively at the National Assembly on constitutional amendments, legislative governance, and policy reforms.

In 2019, Ikhilor was appointed as a Consultant to the Federal House of Representatives for the review of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, focusing on areas such as gender equity, human rights, and strengthening democratic institutions. He also served as Senior Special Assistant and Special Adviser to the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, and in May 2022, was appointed Acting Chief of Staff to the Deputy Speaker.

Ikhilor is also the Managing Partner of Springfield Legal Consult and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Amana Legacy Foundation. He is a Notary Public and remains actively involved in business, corporate legal practice, and social work. He is married with children.

Meet Edo’s new Attorney General: Dr. Samson Osagie

Dr. Samson Osagie, the newly appointed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, is a distinguished legal practitioner with extensive experience in both Nigerian and international law. He was called to the Nigerian Bar on March 22, 1995, and holds leadership positions within the African Bar Association, where he serves as Vice President for the West African region.

Born on November 11, 1967, in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State, Dr. Osagie has held prominent political roles, including serving two terms in the Edo State House of Assembly and as a member of the House of Representatives, where he rose to the position of Minority Whip.

Dr. Osagie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, a qualifying Certificate from the Nigerian Law School, and a triple Master’s degree in Law, Public Administration, and International Relations. He also earned a Doctorate in Political Economy and Development Studies.

Over the years, Dr. Osagie has provided legal consultancy to numerous corporate organizations and development partners across Nigeria and beyond. His vast legal experience, coupled with his expertise in public policy, makes him well-suited to lead the State’s legal affairs.

Introducing Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole: Edo’s new health commissioner

Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, appointed as the new Commissioner for Health, brings a wealth of experience in both medicine and public health to the role. His academic journey began at St. Anne’s Primary School, followed by Command Secondary School, and later, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).

Dr. Oshiomhole furthered his education at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, where he earned a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH), specializing in Environmental Health, Toxicology, and Disaster Management. He also received postgraduate training in Clinical Research at Harvard University and studied Gastroenterology at Queen Mary University of London.

With his strong academic background and a focus on public health, Dr. Oshiomhole is well-positioned to drive health sector reforms and improve healthcare delivery in Edo State.
