The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has explained how Nigerians can download their National Identification Number (NIN) slips online for free using its NINAuth mobile application.
The commission outlined the process in a video shared on its official X account on Wednesday, demonstrating how NIN holders can obtain the official document directly on their mobile phones without visiting NIMC enrolment centres or paying third-party agents.
According to NIMC, Nigerians seeking to download their NIN slips are required to install the NINAuth application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and follow a few simple steps.
After downloading and opening the application, users should tap the “Do More with NINAuth” option and select “NIN Slip” from the available services.
They will then be required to complete a facial authentication process to verify their identity before proceeding with the download.
Once authentication is successful, users can select the “Download NIN Slip” option to generate and save the official document directly to their mobile phones.
“Once verified, click on ‘Download NIN Slip’ to generate and save the official NIMC-issued NIN slip into your mobile phone,” the commission said.
Describing the service as convenient and secure, NIMC emphasised that the process is completely free and can be completed in a few steps.
“It is that simple, it is free, available, and a few taps away. Get yours today,” the commission added.
The initiative is part of NIMC’s efforts to simplify access to national identity services, reduce unnecessary visits to its offices and make essential identification documents more readily available to Nigerians.
NIMC launched the NINAuth platform in October 2025 to give Nigerians greater control over how their personal identity information is accessed and shared across sectors, including government, banking, telecommunications and education.
In June 2026, the commission announced that NIN holders could download their official identification slips directly through the application at no cost.
Information published on the NINAuth website indicates that the downloaded slip is the same official document issued by NIMC and can be presented at banks, government offices and other institutions where proof of NIN registration is required.
The National Identification Number is an 11-digit unique identification number issued to Nigerians and legal residents after successful enrolment. It serves as a means of establishing and verifying an individual’s identity and linking personal records to the National Identity Database.
To obtain a NIN, applicants are required to visit an NIMC enrolment centre, complete the registration process, provide the necessary demographic information and undergo biometric capture, including fingerprint and facial scans.
Following successful registration, an 11-digit identification number is generated and assigned to the individual.
