President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, as Director of Air Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 re-election campaign.
Under the new arrangement, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, will serve as Deputy Director I, while Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar has been appointed Deputy Director II.
The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Sunday by Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood.
According to the statement, the appointments reflect the strategic importance of air transportation, operational coordination and aviation logistics to the organisation of a nationwide presidential campaign.
The Directorate of Air Mobilisation is expected to coordinate air travel arrangements for designated campaign officials and personnel, support movement planning and facilitate transportation for campaign activities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Given the scale of the 2027 presidential campaign, the directorate is expected to work with other campaign structures to ensure efficient scheduling, effective coordination and the deployment of logistical resources, in line with applicable aviation regulations and electoral laws.
Keyamo’s aviation experience to drive coordination
The statement said Keyamo’s appointment brings aviation-sector experience to the campaign’s organisational structure, citing his role in leading policy initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s aviation industry, improving its international standing and positioning the country as a major aviation hub in Africa.
His familiarity with the industry’s operational demands is expected to support the coordination of air-mobilisation activities and the development of an effective framework for campaign travel.
The appointment of Kuku and Umar as deputy directors is also expected to strengthen the directorate’s leadership and technical capacity in planning and coordinating nationwide campaign movements.
The statement noted that air transportation would be an important component of campaign logistics, particularly as political leaders and officials travel to multiple locations within tight schedules.
It added that the directorate would support the broader campaign organisation through structured planning, stakeholder coordination, efficient scheduling and appropriate logistical arrangements.
The statement further emphasised the need for collaboration with other campaign directorates, clear operational procedures and strict compliance with aviation safety requirements and relevant laws governing political campaigns.
It also stressed that campaign activities must remain separate from official government functions, with campaign-related travel and logistics handled through properly authorised channels.
Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027 is being organised through the APC’s presidential campaign structure, which is expected to coordinate the party’s preparations and activities ahead of the general election.
