Operatives of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have uncovered a large-scale counterfeit alcoholic beverage operation at Zamfara Plaza, BBA Trade Fair Complex, along the Badagry Expressway in Ojo, Lagos State.

The operation, carried out on Tuesday by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement (I&E) Directorate, followed credible intelligence and led to the discovery of more than 20 illegal stores allegedly involved in illicit activities within the complex.

According to a statement by the agency, the suspected operation was concealed in makeshift stores used as parking spaces on the premises.

NAFDAC said its operatives discovered individuals allegedly blending and counterfeiting popular alcoholic beverage brands, revalidating expired and unsafe drinks for resale, and stockpiling banned imported products.

Two suspects were arrested during the raid, while the seized products, valued at more than ₦2 billion, were evacuated from the premises.

The agency warned that the circulation of counterfeit, expired or unsafe alcoholic beverages could pose significant risks to public health and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant.

It also called on members of the public to report suspected cases of illegal manufacturing, product revalidation and the sale of prohibited or unsafe regulated products.

Suspected violations can be reported through NAFDAC’s official complaints line: 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322).
