The Federal Government has announced that repair work on the damaged expansion joints along the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will commence on September 8, 2026.
A statement issued on Sunday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the development was in line with an earlier announcement by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The rehabilitation, initially scheduled to begin in August 2026, was suspended to allow for a review of the traffic management plan following public concerns over the short notice and the need to minimise disruption to motorists.
The two-week project, directed by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, involves replacing deteriorating expansion joints to enhance road safety, preserve the structural integrity of the bridge and improve traffic flow along the busy corridor.
The rehabilitation is expected to run until September 22, 2026.
The Lagos State Government has advised motorists using the corridor to plan their journeys ahead and allow for possible delays.
To minimise the impact on traffic, the government said one half of the affected section would be closed at a time, while motorists would use the other half under an alternating traffic arrangement.
The state government also appealed to motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials to ensure the rehabilitation is completed within the scheduled two-week period.
