Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has approved a monthly stipend of ₦30,000 for every National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member deployed to the state, in a move aimed at strengthening youth welfare and supporting corps members during their service year.
The announcement was made at the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
Representing the governor at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their welfare, security and overall well-being.
Onyia described Ebonyi as a peaceful, hospitable and opportunity-rich state, urging the corps members to make the most of their service year through personal development, cultural integration and meaningful contributions to their host communities.
“This administration remains committed to supporting your growth, welfare, and safety,” Onyia said on Friday, urging the corps members to contribute meaningfully to their primary assignments across the state.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Malgwi Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi State Government for its continued partnership and investment in youth development. She, however, called for further government intervention to address infrastructure needs at the orientation camp, located at the Old MacGregor College in Afikpo.
Maidariya appealed for the modernisation of the camp’s central kitchen and the construction of a standard dining facility. She also called for the establishment of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) centre, renovation of the perimeter fence and upgrades to facilities within the multipurpose hall.
Addressing the corps members, she stressed the importance of discipline, active participation in camp programmes and adherence to the core NYSC values of patriotism, integrity and selfless service.
She also commended camp officials, resource personnel and security agencies for their efforts in maintaining order and ensuring the smooth running of the orientation programme.
The swearing-in ceremony featured the formal administration of the oath of allegiance to the newly inducted corps members, tactical drills by the Man O’ War unit, traditional performances and an official inspection of infrastructure development projects within the camp.
