The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned prospective corps members that they will not be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance through the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The directive comes as the scheme intensifies preparations for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members.
In a public notice posted on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC said NERD clearance is now a mandatory requirement for mobilisation and urged prospective corps members (PCMs) to complete the process early to avoid delays.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
Reiterating the directive, it added: “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Although the scheme did not provide further details on the clearance process, the directive signals a stricter verification regime ahead of the next orientation exercise.
The advisory comes shortly after the NYSC announced the mobilisation of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year and urged tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the orientation camp.
It also follows a recent safety advisory in which the scheme cautioned prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night.
The NYSC advised PCMs to break their journeys where necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and security formations, rather than risk travelling after dark.
The latest directives underscore the scheme’s efforts to strengthen the integrity of its mobilisation process while enhancing the safety of prospective corps members amid ongoing security concerns on Nigerian highways.
Prospective corps members are therefore expected to complete all required registration and verification procedures, including the mandatory NERD clearance, before reporting to orientation camp.
