The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have announced power outages across several communities following heavy rainfall that disrupted electricity infrastructure in parts of Lagos and Osun states.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, EKEDC said electricity supply across its network had been reduced following outages on the Osogbo-Ikeja 330kV and Benin-Egbin 330kV transmission lines, leading to load shedding in some of its business districts.
Communities affected include Chevy View Estate, Chevron Drive, Agungi, Alpha Beach, Ikate, Elegushi, Carlton Gate, Kusenla, Victory Park Estate, Oniru, Maroko, Muri Okunola, Ajose Adeogun, Ligali Ayorinde and parts of Aboyade Cole.
Other affected areas are Morinho Drive, Landmark Road, Igbo Efon, Lekki Tollgate 2, Igbokusu, Gbangbala, Platinum Way, Jakande/Coastal Road, OADC/Mayegun, Ajiran, Chevron Alternative Area and Osapa London.
The company attributed the disruption to faults on the national transmission grid.
“Some business units may experience load shedding. Cause: Grid Disruption.
“Osogbo/Ikeja 330kV line down. The Benin/Egbin 330kV line is down. Impact: Reduction in grid allocation,” the statement read.
EKEDC said it was working closely with the national grid operator to restore normal electricity supply once the affected transmission lines are repaired, although it did not give a timeline for restoration.
“We are in constant contact with the national grid operator and will restore supply as soon as the lines are back. Thank you for your patience,” the company said.
In a separate statement, IBEDC said flooding caused by a heavy rainstorm at the Ilerin Injection Substation disrupted electricity supply to several communities in Osun State.
According to the company, the flooding affected the Isare 11kV, Irogbo 11kV and Mount Carmel 11kV feeders, resulting in outages in Ifewara, Iwara, Bolorunduro, Irogbo, Ayeso, Odo-Oro, Wesley, Express Area, Ilerin, Irojo, Olomilagbala, Iwikun, Isare and neighbouring communities.
“Our technical team is working to ensure power supply is restored. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” IBEDC said.
The disruptions come as several parts of the country continue to experience heavy rainfall and flooding during the peak of the 2026 rainy season.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency had earlier warned that several states, including Lagos and Osun, faced an elevated risk of flooding and urged residents and relevant authorities to take precautionary measures.
In recent days, torrential rains have flooded roads and residential areas in parts of Lagos and neighbouring states, disrupting transportation, damaging infrastructure and affecting electricity facilities.
