Tobi Amusan sets new record to win Diamond League in Rabat

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan produced a stunning performance to win the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco on Sunday, claiming her first Diamond League victory of the 2026 season in record-breaking fashion.

The world record holder stormed to victory in 12.28 seconds, equalling her season’s best and finishing comfortably ahead of her rivals.

Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton placed second in 12.40 seconds, while the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser finished third in 12.47 seconds.

Amusan’s winning time also shattered the previous meeting record of 12.45 seconds, which she set at the same venue in 2025.

The victory marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian star, who had recorded podium finishes earlier this season but was yet to secure a Diamond League win.

Amusan opened her Diamond League campaign with a third-place finish in Shanghai, clocking 12.41 seconds, before improving to second place at the Xiamen Diamond League in China with a season-best 12.28 seconds.

Prior to her Diamond League outings, the Nigerian clinched gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2026 African Championships in Accra, delivering Nigeria’s first gold medal of the competition.

Her triumph in Rabat provides further momentum as she prepares to defend her Commonwealth Games title later this year.

Amusan will return to action at the next Wanda Diamond League meeting in Rome, Italy, on June 4.
