Omo-Agege dumps APC after Delta primary defeat

Ovie Omo-Agege
Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments within the party in Delta State.

In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh, the former senator said his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates and supporters.

Omo-Agege stated that his political aspirations, as well as the interests of the people of Delta Central, would be better pursued outside the ruling party.

“After reviewing recent developments within the APC in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear that my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the party,” he said.

The former lawmaker added that he could no longer remain in a party where he was unable to effectively advance the interests of his people.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he stated.

According to the statement dated May 22, 2026, Omo-Agege’s resignation takes immediate effect.

The former Deputy Senate President disclosed that he communicated his decision in a letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

He also requested that his name be removed from all APC membership records, registers, and communication platforms.

Despite his exit from the party, Omo-Agege expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate.

He further wished the party well while reaffirming his commitment to the development of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria.

The former senator said he would continue to pursue effective representation and development for his constituents outside the APC.
