A 43-year-old entrepreneur, Richard Akinaka, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akinaka was declared the party’s flagbearer on Thursday at the senatorial district collation centre located at St. Peter’s Primary School, Yenagoa, which served as the venue for the announcement of primary election results.
He was returned unopposed by the PDP Vice Chairman for the senatorial district and Returning Officer, Mr. Bidi Weris, following the conduct of primaries across various wards in the district.
Speaking after his emergence, Akinaka expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for the confidence placed in him, describing his nomination as a “sacred trust.”
“Our people have long yearned for steady hope and progress. Over the years, we have suffered stagnation and underrepresentation. That era is over,” he said.
“As we prepare for the general election, my message is one of hope, optimism, and commitment,” Akinaka added.
He also pledged to prioritise delivering value to constituents rather than personal interest, assuring party members of victory in the 2027 elections.
Akinaka said the PDP would work collectively to secure success at the polls, expressing confidence in the party’s chances in Bayelsa Central.
His emergence formally positions him as the PDP flagbearer for the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
