The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested three persons living with disabilities in separate drug trafficking operations across Anambra and Kwara States, as part of a wider nationwide crackdown on illicit drug networks.
This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, who said operatives acted on intelligence-led operations to track and apprehend the suspects.
In Anambra State, NDLEA operatives arrested 60-year-old Romanus Nwabara at Akpaka Forest in Onitsha with 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets.
In a separate operation in Ogbunike, also in Anambra, a 25-year-old suspect, Amos Kenneth, was arrested with 160.3 grams of Tramadol, 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grams of Exol-5, and 176.93 grams of skunk. He is also reported to be living with a disability.
In Kwara State, NDLEA officers intercepted a commercial vehicle along the Bode Saadu axis, where they discovered 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a brown school bag belonging to a passenger, Usman Salisu, another suspect living with a disability.
The agency also recorded a major breakthrough in Lagos, where operatives of its Special Operations Unit raided a mansion in Lekki Phase 1 allegedly used as a drug storage facility.
During the raid, officers recovered 4,000 parcels of “Loud,” a high-grade strain of cannabis weighing 2,326 kilograms, with an estimated street value of over N5.8 billion.
Two Mercedes-Benz buses and packaging materials believed to be used for distribution were also seized from the property.
Elsewhere, in Nasarawa State, NDLEA operatives arrested 38-year-old Emmanuel Osita Okeke in Nyanya-Karu with 129 kilograms of skunk.
In Kogi State, along the Okene–Lokoja highway, officers intercepted a bus headed for Abuja and recovered 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilograms. Three suspects — Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa — were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In Lagos, at Ijora Badia, operatives raided a clandestine skuchies production site and arrested Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege. Officers recovered 270 litres of the illicit mixture as well as 106 grams of Tramadol.
The NDLEA said the suspects were engaged in processing cannabis mixed with other substances for distribution.
Beyond enforcement operations, the agency said it has continued its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, with sensitisation programmes held in schools, communities, workplaces, and traditional institutions across Nasarawa, Ekiti, Enugu, Abia, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kano, and Oyo States.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations, praising their commitment to reducing drug supply while intensifying public awareness campaigns against substance abuse.
He urged personnel across the country to sustain the momentum in the fight against illicit drugs.
The latest arrests and seizures highlight the scale of Nigeria’s drug trafficking challenge and the agency’s ongoing efforts to dismantle supply networks while strengthening prevention and enforcement nationwide.
