Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa
The Federal Government has disbursed ₦11.8bn to 6,842 academic and non-academic staff across tertiary institutions in Nigeria under its staff support scheme.

Beneficiaries span 141 institutions, including federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, according to data published on the Federal Ministry of Education website and obtained by our correspondent.

The intervention was implemented under the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), with 34,000 applicants from 219 institutions already verified.

Data shows that staff from federal universities account for the highest share of applicants at 59 per cent, followed by polytechnics with 23 per cent and colleges of education with 18 per cent.

Launched in August 2025, the TISSF is a joint initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and TETFund, aimed at improving the welfare, career development, and financial stability of tertiary institution staff through interest-free loans.

The scheme provides loans of up to ₦10m per eligible staff member at zero per cent interest, with a minimum of five years to retirement required for qualification.

Key figures published on the ministry’s portal include: “₦11.8bn disbursed to 6,842 beneficiaries from 141 institutions; 34,000 verified applicants from 219 institutions; Federal universities (59%), polytechnics (23%), COEs (18%); loans up to ₦10m per staff at 0% interest.”

Under the broader Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative, 240 e-tricycles have also been distributed across 12 institutions to support mobility and campus operations.

Other ongoing programmes include the EduRevamp Teacher Platform, a digital training system introduced to strengthen educators’ skills, and the School Safety Portal, developed in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to enhance security management in schools.

According to the ministry, the EduRevamp platform—launched at the first National Teacher Summit in January 2026—has recorded 37,000 registered users, with 18,000 teachers fully enrolled in its training modules.
