A former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing recent political developments and a reassessment of his political direction.

Gwarzo announced his resignation in a letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the ADC Chairman in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State. He stated that the decision took immediate effect.

In the letter, the former deputy governor said his move followed deep reflection and consultations with political associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state.

“The decision comes after deep reflection and wide consultations with my political associates, supporters and well-wishers across the state,” he said.

He explained that shifting political dynamics made it necessary to reconsider his party affiliation in line with his broader political vision.

“Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” he added.

Gwarzo said his resignation was driven by what he described as patriotic considerations and a desire to pursue a political path aligned with his principles of governance and development.

“My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values and sustainable development of our dear state,” he stated.

He also expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership and members for their support during his time in the ADC.

“I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the cooperation, respect and support I received during my stay in the party,” he said.

Gwarzo did not disclose his next political move, though the development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
