Tesla has begun production of its highly anticipated autonomous “robotaxi,” the Cybercab, Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk announced on Friday, just a day after the company reported stronger-than-expected first-quarter earnings.

Musk shared the update on X, posting a promotional video with the caption: “Cybercab has started production.”

The 38-second clip, filmed largely from inside the driverless vehicle, shows the Cybercab rolling off the factory line before transitioning onto public roads. In a separate post, Musk shared another short video appearing to show multiple gold-colored Cybercabs moving in formation.

Earlier in the week, Tesla said it remains on track to begin volume production of both the Cybercab and its Tesla Semi later this year, following the announcement of $477 million in first-quarter profit.

The Cybercab, designed as a fully autonomous robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals was first unveiled in late 2024. At the time, Musk projected a commercial rollout by 2027.

Tesla has already begun limited robotaxi operations, offering early-access rides to select users on an invitation-only basis in Austin since June last year.

In February, the company shared an image of employees gathered around a Cybercab at its Giga Texas facility, marking what it described as the first unit off the production line.
