Retired police officers protest in Abuja over pension scheme

Retire police officers protesting in Abuja over pension scheme.
Retired police officers and their families, under the umbrella of the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria (PROF), on Monday blocked one of the gates of the Presidential Villa in Abuja in protest against the continued inclusion of the Nigeria Police Force in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The demonstrators described the scheme as “fraudulent, illegal, inhumane and obnoxious,” insisting it has left many retirees impoverished and vulnerable.

They are calling on President Bola Tinubu to assent to the Police Exit Bill passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the Presidency on March 16, 2026. The bill seeks to remove police personnel from the CPS.

According to the group, signing the bill into law would end what they described as a “slavery and untimely death-inducing pension scheme” and restore dignity to retired officers.

The protest is being led by the National Coordinator of PROF, CSP Raphael Irowainu.
