The Katsina State Government has concluded arrangements for its maiden mass wedding programme involving at least 1,000 couples drawn from all 34 local government areas of the state.
The initiative, according to the government, is aimed at reducing social vices and supporting vulnerable residents across the state.
Although the total cost of the programme has not been disclosed, officials said the government will empower brides and provide support packages for grooms to help them establish stable households.
The Director-General of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, Malam Abu-Ammar, disclosed this on Thursday during a livelihood support and counselling training organised ahead of the event.
He said many widows, orphans, and other vulnerable individuals are willing to marry but are unable to do so due to socioeconomic challenges.
The training was organised by a marital support foundation in collaboration with the Hisbah Board and the state Ministry of Women Affairs.
The Katsina State Commissioner for Women Affairs, A’isha Malumfashi, said the beneficiaries, about 2,000 individuals, had already undergone medical screening and verification to confirm their health status and compatibility.
Malumfashi, who was represented by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Aminatu Mashi, added that the maiden mass wedding is scheduled to hold on April 25, 2026.
