El-Rufai arrives court for bail hearing amid tight security

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai
Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the continuation of hearing on his bail application.

El-Rufai arrived at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday amid heavy security presence.

The hearing follows Tuesday’s adjournment by the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, after a series of legal exchanges between the defence and prosecution.

Counsel to the former governor, led by Ubong Akpan, had initially filed a motion seeking the judge’s recusal over alleged bias but later withdrew the application, contributing to procedural delays.

The prosecution also filed a counter-affidavit opposing bail, leaving the defence with limited time to respond, which prompted the adjournment to Wednesday.

Ahead of the resumed hearing, security around the court was intensified, with a combined team of police officers and Department of State Services personnel deployed to the premises.

El-Rufai is facing multiple charges, including alleged fraud, money laundering, and unlawful possession of public funds, brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
