Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State, has dissolved his entire cabinet, directing all commissioners to relinquish their positions.
The directive was announced on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani.
No specific reason was provided, but analysts suggest the move may be linked to preparations for the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, the directive takes immediate effect to allow appointees with political ambitions to pursue elective offices.
“Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council,” the statement read.
“The decision is intended to provide an enabling environment for any council member who wishes to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections. The Governor has therefore directed all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to the Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.”
Zulum also expressed appreciation to his commissioners for their dedication, commitment, and invaluable contributions to the development and service of the people of Borno State.
He is the latest governor to ask political appointees to resign ahead of elections, joining others such as Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), and Abba Yusuf (Kano).
