Health workers protest in Abuja against proposed regulatory bill

Health workers under the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA) are staging a protest at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.

The demonstration opposes the proposed Health Sector Regulatory Bill, currently before the National Assembly.

The protesters argue that the bill, if passed, would place all medical and health professions under the regulation of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, undermining the autonomy of existing professional regulatory bodies.

They claim the legislation would effectively make other health professionals “second-class” to medical doctors.

The demonstrators plan to march to the National Assembly to present their objections directly to lawmakers.
