Five family members die in Yobe car accident

Police in Yobe State have confirmed the deaths of five members of the same family in a car accident along the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road on the late hours of Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

The police spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said that the crash involved a Sharon Bus and a truck near Kukareta community, about 20 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by high speed and uncalculated overtaking by the Sharon Bus, which collided with the Coca-Cola truck,” he said.

A relative of the victims, Dahiru Musa Talba, confirmed the tragedy on Facebook, revealing that three other family members sustained injuries of varying degrees. Expressing his grief, he wrote: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. My mom has died.”

Governor Mai Mala Buni, through his media aide Mamman Mohammed, described the incident as unfortunate and a great loss to the people of Yobe.

The governor’s statement read in part: “The pain of losing five members of a family in a single road accident is beyond imagination; however, as faithful, we believe that this is their appointed time. We pray to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased’s family the fortitude to bear this huge and irreparable loss.”
