Chuck Norris, the iconic US martial artist and Hollywood action star best known for his role in Walker, Texas Ranger, has died at the age of 86, his family announced on Friday.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the family said in a statement posted on Instagram.
“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives,” the statement added.
Norris reportedly fell ill on Thursday while on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
The legendary actor had celebrated his 86th birthday just last week, sharing a video of himself boxing on social media with the caption, “I don’t age. I level up.”
A martial arts expert who transitioned into acting, Norris appeared in numerous action films following his debut in a cameo role in the 1968 film The Wrecking Crew, starring Dean Martin.
He rose to global fame after his memorable on-screen fight with kung fu legend Bruce Lee in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon, a performance that cemented his status as an action icon across both film and television.
“Nothing like some playful action on a sunny day to make you feel young,” Norris had said in his birthday message just days before his passing.
