The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, signifying the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the government.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the fasting period.

Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasised during Ramadan.

He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s continued peace, unity, and prosperity.

While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the minister encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
