Gunmen attack Ondo church, kidnap six worshippers

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of six worshippers from a Celestial Church along the Uso/Owo Expressway in Owo Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said in a statement on Wednesday that the incident occurred in the early hours of February 25, around 12:50 a.m.

Jimoh explained that the victims were reportedly taken to an unknown location by the attackers.

“Upon receiving the report, operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations,” he said.

He added that one of the kidnapped worshippers has been successfully rescued, and a suspected informant linked to the incident has been arrested and is assisting with ongoing investigations.

“Security operations are ongoing to ensure the safe recovery of the remaining victims and the apprehension of all perpetrators involved,” Jimoh said.

He urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that may aid the ongoing operations.
