A fire has reportedly broken out at the old terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, a facility currently undergoing a multi-billion-naira renovation.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but the affected terminal is part of the airport’s older infrastructure being upgraded to enhance facilities and passenger experience.
Confirming the development to The Telegraph, Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said authorities were on-site managing the situation.
“We are aware of the outbreak, and we are on the ground. Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to contain the situation. No loss of lives has been recorded,” he stated.
Passengers and airport users have been urged to remain calm as officials work to extinguish the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
FAAN is expected to release an official statement with further details shortly.
