Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor.
According to the statement, the governor approved the appointment as part of efforts to strengthen communication and deepen public engagement with government policies and programmes.
“This is to inform the general public that Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy,” the statement read.
It described Johnson-Okojie as an accomplished actress, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, noting that she is one of Nollywood’s most prominent figures, with a career spanning nearly two decades and appearances in over 200 films.
The statement also highlighted her humanitarian work through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which focuses on women’s empowerment, child welfare, educational support and healthcare outreach.
Ikhilor said the actress is expected to leverage her widespread popularity and grassroots appeal to enhance dialogue between the government and the people of Edo State.
Johnson-Okojie’s husband, Odianosen Okogie, represents the Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
