The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the prompt payment of pensions to retired civil servants, stressing that service to the state does not end at retirement.
In a statement shared via his official X handle on Friday, the governor gave the assurance during a meeting with the leadership of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, led by Otunba Nurudeen Ojora Adejiyan and Mrs. Dr. Abeke Taire.
Sanwo-Olu commended the retirees for their years of dedication, describing them as individuals who devoted their most productive years to building and strengthening Lagos.
“In Lagos, public service does not end when someone leaves office. These are men and women who gave their best years to our state, and they deserve respect and dignity in retirement,” he said.
The governor noted that the state has consistently fulfilled its pension obligations, emphasising that timely payments remain a priority.
“One thing I am particularly proud of is that Lagos continues to meet its obligations to our retirees. We remain consistent and timely with pension payments because it is the right thing to do. After serving the state faithfully, no one should have to worry about when their pension will be paid. That responsibility rests with us, and we take it seriously,” he stated.
While acknowledging that improvements can still be made, Sanwo-Olu maintained that the administration’s direction remains clear.
“There is always more to improve, but our direction is clear. In Lagos, we honour those who have served,” he added.
The meeting underscores the state government’s continued efforts to safeguard the welfare of retired public servants and ensure that pension commitments are met promptly and consistently.
