Thomas Tuchel has signed a new contract to remain head coach of the England national football team through the end of Euro 2028 in the UK and Ireland, the Football Association announced on Thursday.
Tuchel, who succeeded Gareth Southgate in October 2024, has guided England to an unbeaten qualification campaign for this year’s World Cup in North America, with the team winning all eight group games under his leadership.
“I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England,” said the 52-year-old former Chelsea manager, whose previous contract ran only until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
“It is no secret that I have loved every minute working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them at the World Cup. It is an incredible opportunity, and we will do our very best to make the country proud.”
The FA said the new deal would provide “clarity and full focus” ahead of the World Cup.
Tuchel had previously been linked with a permanent managerial role at Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s departure, despite an upturn in form under caretaker boss Michael Carrick.
By committing to England, Tuchel appears to have ruled out any post-World Cup move to Old Trafford.
