Police arrest landlady for allegedly poisoning tenant’s three-year-old son in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning a three-year-old boy in Omifon community, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, identifying the victim as the child of the suspect’s tenant.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., following an argument between the suspect and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat. Lateef, who is said to be the landlady, allegedly gave the child, Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.

“Shortly after consuming the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received prompt medical attention,” Jimoh said.

He added that police detectives arrested the suspect during a swift, intelligence-led operation and recovered the liquid substance believed to have been used in the alleged poisoning.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and has made useful statements. A thorough investigation is ongoing, and the case will be charged to court upon conclusion,” the police spokesperson said.
