George Moghalu resigns from Labour Party

George Moghalu
Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Anambra State, George Moghalu, has resigned from the party.

Moghalu announced his decision in a letter dated January 26, 2026, which he shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday. The letter was addressed to the Chairman of Ward 1 of the Labour Party in Uruagu, Nnewi, and stated that the resignation takes immediate effect.

“I bring you the good wishes of my family and formally inform you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective today, January 26, 2026,” the letter read.

He expressed gratitude to the party for giving him the opportunity to contest the 2025 Anambra State governorship election on its platform and asked that his regards be conveyed to party members. Moghalu signed off the letter as “Ohamadike Na Nnewi.”

Moghalu joined the Labour Party in October 2024 after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he was a chieftain and served as National Auditor.

The former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), a position he held from 2019 to 2023, had resigned from the APC in August 2024, citing personal reasons and the need for a “better platform” to pursue his governorship ambition.

He later clinched the Labour Party governorship ticket in April 2025 ahead of the Anambra State governorship election.

However, in the November 8, 2025 election, incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) defeated Moghalu and other contenders to secure a second term.

Following the election, Moghalu rejected the outcome, describing the process as a “scam” and alleging widespread vote-buying and electoral irregularities.
