APC officially registers Gov Fubara as party member

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after receiving his party membership card at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The Rivers State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, who represented the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda presented the card to the governor on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fubara said his decision to join the APC was driven by the need to foster unity and accelerate development in the state. He explained that aligning with the ruling party at the federal level had become necessary to ensure political stability and enhance the state’s development agenda.

He added that his support for President Bola Tinubu was both a political alignment and a gesture of appreciation for the President’s role in sustaining the Rivers State government during its most challenging moments.

The governor noted that with Rivers State now aligned with the federal government under one political family, the path to strengthening the APC and ensuring a smooth political journey toward 2027 had become clearer and more achievable.

Fubara assured the APC’s national leadership that Rivers State would remain a stronghold of the party under his watch. He pledged to take full responsibility for meeting the needs of the party’s executives and sustaining its activities across the state.

He also thanked party leaders and supporters who stood by him, urging them to redouble their commitment as the state enters what he described as a new phase of political consolidation and development.

In his remarks, Yilwatda, represented by Okocha, congratulated Fubara for what he described as a bold and patriotic decision to join the APC. He said the governor’s defection marks a new chapter of unity among political leaders in Rivers State, who are now coming together under one political family.

The ceremony was attended by senior party figures, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who was in the state at the governor’s invitation for the commissioning of the Ikwerre Road–Igwiruta–Airport Road project and the flag-off of a new bypass to enhance access to communities around the Port Harcourt International Airport.
