2027: Baba-Ahmed vows not to abandon Labour Party as Obi did

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party (LP), the platform on which he contested as vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

Baba-Ahmed, 56, was the running mate to Peter Obi, who lost the presidency to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following the election, Obi left the LP and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition-backed platform aimed at challenging the ruling APC.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the LP National Headquarters in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed stated that he would not follow Obi’s path. He pledged to dedicate himself to addressing Nigeria’s challenges in the 2027 polls.

“I am committed to the Labour Party and its mission. I am not convinced by the ADC, which appears to be a gathering of disgruntled politicians,” he said.
