Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday announced a ₦100 million donation to the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Legion, alongside the provision of two utility vehicles and four housing units, ahead of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The governor made the announcement via his X handle after receiving members of the Legion during a State Executive Council meeting, where activities marking the annual remembrance event were formally launched.
Sanwo-Olu said the gesture underscores the state government’s commitment to recognising and supporting military veterans who served the nation with distinction.
“I want our veterans to know that Lagos State truly values their service. To show our appreciation, I have committed ₦100 million and two utility vehicles to support the operations of the Nigerian Legion,” he said.
He added that the state would also provide four two-bedroom apartments, as well as food items and other essential supplies, to further assist members of the association.
The governor noted that Nigeria’s sovereignty and unity were secured through the sacrifices of men and women of the armed forces, many of whom paid the ultimate price or returned home with life-altering injuries.
According to him, the Emblem Appeal is a collective responsibility owed to fallen heroes and surviving veterans alike.
“We must remember them in real and tangible ways. This is our way of saying thank you for the sacrifices that allow all of us to live in a free and united country,” Sanwo-Olu said.
