Police arrest mother, son in Ondo over alleged ritual plot

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a mother and son in connection with an alleged ritual plot, the command announced on Saturday.

The suspects, identified as Maria, 53, and her son Adewale, 28, were apprehended in Ile-Oluji town, the headquarters of Ile-Oluji/Oke Igbo Local Government Area.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspects allegedly planned to use a 10-year-old boy for ritual purposes.

Jimoh stated, “The command has recorded another notable success in its ongoing crime prevention efforts with the arrest of two suspects in connection with an attempted ritual activity in Ile-Oluji on 27th December, 2025. The breakthrough followed actionable and credible intelligence leveraged by operatives of the SWAT Tactical Team. Acting on a tip-off from a concerned citizen, our operatives swiftly conducted the operation.”

He added that the boy, who was reportedly intended for ritual purposes, was successfully rescued and taken to a hospital for medical attention.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that Maria conspired with her son Adewale to engage the services of an herbalist to use the victim for a money ritual. The suspects are currently in police custody and have reportedly confessed to the crime,” Jimoh said.

He further noted that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
