President Bola Tinubu has reconstituted the board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), with Musiliu Oseni appointed as chairman.

Oseni, who began his service as a NERC commissioner in January 2017, previously served as vice chairman of the commission. According to the statement, his appointment as chairman took effect from December 1, 2025, and will subsist until the completion of his 10-year tenure, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.

Yusuf Ali was appointed vice chairman of the board. He was first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, with his designation as vice chairman taking effect from December 1, 2025, and set to last until the completion of his first term.

Other members of the reconstituted NERC board include Nathan Shatti, who is serving a second term as commissioner, having been first appointed in January 2017, and Dafe Akpeneye, also on a second term after his initial appointment in January 2017.

Aisha Bello, first appointed as commissioner in December 2020, is likewise serving a second term on the board. Chidi Ike, who was first appointed in February 2022, is returning for a second stint as commissioner.

Fouad Animashaun will serve his first term as a commissioner, effective December 2025. The Presidency described him as an energy economist with extensive experience in the Nigerian power sector. He most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has charged members of the reconstituted board to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict compliance with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
