Kylian Mbappé scored all four goals as Real Madrid held on for a thrilling 4–3 victory over Olympiacos in the Champions League on Wednesday, ending their three-match winless run in all competitions.
Olympiacos struck first in Piraeus, with Chiquinho firing into the bottom corner from 20 yards to cap a well-worked move. But from that moment on, the night belonged to Mbappé, who surged to the top of this season’s Champions League scoring chart in spectacular fashion.
The France captain equalised in the 22nd minute, racing onto a sublime through ball from Vinicius Junior before firing through the legs of goalkeeper Kostas Tzolakis. Just two minutes later, Mbappé rose to glance an Arda Güler cross into the far corner, completing a rapid turnaround.
He sealed his hat-trick moments later, bursting clear of the defence and calmly slotting past Tzolakis. The treble, scored in just six minutes and 42 seconds, was the second-fastest in Champions League history, behind only Mohamed Salah’s record against Rangers in 2022.
Olympiacos substitute Mehdi Taremi, who had replaced the injured Chiquinho, pulled one back early in the second half with a powerful header past stand-in goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, filling in for the ill Thibaut Courtois.
But Mbappé restored Madrid’s cushion, tapping in his fourth of the night after excellent work from Vinicius down the left, ensuring Real finally secured their first away win over Greek opposition at the eighth attempt.
The Frenchman now has nine goals in five Champions League games, moving three clear of Victor Osimhen atop the scoring charts.
Ayoub El Kaabi set up a tense finish by reducing the deficit with nine minutes remaining, but Madrid held firm to claim their fourth win in five European fixtures and bounce back from defeat to Liverpool in their previous Champions League outing.
