Shettima returns to Abuja after G20, AU–EU summits

Shettima arrives Abuja after engagements in G20, AU/EU summits.
Vice President Kashim Shettima returned to Abuja on Tuesday night after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 7th African Union–European Union (AU–EU) Summit in Luanda, Angola.

Shettima announced his arrival in a brief post on his official X account, where he also shared photos from the trip.

The Vice President had departed South Africa for Luanda on Sunday, following what he described as a “successful outing” at the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, where he also stood in for President Tinubu.

At the AU–EU Summit, Shettima delivered the President’s message, reiterating Nigeria’s demand for permanent, veto-wielding African seats on the United Nations Security Council. He emphasised that “comprehensive reform of the global governance system is long overdue.”

Tinubu, through the VP, also called for strengthened AU–EU cooperation, urging the European Union to jointly develop peace and security initiatives with African partners, anchored on African-led frameworks capable of delivering long-term stability across the continent.

Shettima’s return marks the conclusion of a multi-country diplomatic mission during which he represented Nigeria at two major global summits in quick succession.
