The Kano Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 178 Nigerian returnees from Niamey, Niger Republic, under the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return initiative.
The returnees arrived on November 24, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m. at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport aboard an Asky Airlines flight, NEMA Kano disclosed in a statement on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.
According to the agency, officials from the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and proper documentation of all returnees to ensure accurate records and facilitate smooth reintegration.
“Upon arrival, NIS officials promptly carried out biometric registration and documentation to guarantee accurate records and seamless reintegration into the country,” the statement said.
After documentation at the airport, the returnees were taken to the Nigerian Immigration Service Training School for profiling by relevant stakeholders, which concluded on Tuesday.
The statement highlighted the coordinated efforts of NEMA, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), and other partners.
“The collaborative efforts of NEMA, NCFRMI, IOM, NRCS, and other stakeholders ensured that the reception process was well-organized, efficient, and centered on the dignity and welfare of all returnees,” it said.
NEMA provided a demographic breakdown of the returnees: 94 male adults, 33 male children, 32 female adults, and 19 female children.
The agency noted that the initiative is part of a wider Federal Government effort to support voluntary repatriation and reintegration of Nigerians abroad.
