INEC declares Soludo winner of Anambra governorship poll

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State
The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has been declared the winner of the Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Edoba Omoregie of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Awka on Sunday.

According to INEC, Soludo polled a total of 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, came third with 37,753 votes.

INEC stated that 16 candidates from different political parties participated in the election. Out of 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited, while 595,298 votes were cast. Of these, 584,054 were valid, and 11,244 were rejected.

Prof. Omoregie noted that although there were cancellations in some wards across Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South, and Onitsha South local government areas — affecting 10,481 votes — the margin of lead between the top candidates was sufficient to determine the outcome.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, I, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, Returning Officer for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, hereby declare Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance the winner and duly elected Governor of Anambra State,” Omoregie announced.

INEC confirmed that Soludo won all 21 local government areas of the state, marking a decisive victory for APGA.
