Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Friday led several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains to the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of judgment in a suit seeking to halt the party’s planned national convention.
The case was instituted by three party officials — Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Amah Nnanna (Abia PDP Chairman), and Turnah George (South-South PDP Secretary) — who are asking the court to stop the convention where new national officers are expected to be elected.
The plaintiffs based their suit on alleged violations of the PDP constitution, arguing that the processes leading to the convention did not comply with the party’s rules.
The PDP Governors’ Forum had in August warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other stakeholders against actions that could derail the national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.
Earlier this week, the party announced a postponement of the screening of aspirants for the 2025 convention, citing “unforeseen circumstances.”
“The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has put on hold the screening of aspirants for the 2025 Elective National Convention, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025, due to unforeseen circumstances,” the statement read.
The announcement, signed by Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the Convention Committee, added that a new date will be communicated once confirmed.
“The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement,” the statement concluded.
The Federal High Court is expected to deliver its judgment on the suit soon.
