Biden undergoing radiation therapy for prostate cancer — Spokesperson

Former US President, Joe Biden
Former US President Joe Biden is undergoing radiation and hormone therapy to treat prostate cancer, his spokesperson confirmed Saturday.

“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” the statement read.

In May, Biden’s office revealed that the 82-year-old had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. The diagnosis followed urinary symptoms and the discovery of a prostate nodule.

“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places,” Biden said at the time, referencing the loss of his son Beau to cancer in 2015. “Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

Biden’s health drew increased scrutiny last year during his bid for re-election against Donald Trump, particularly after a new book raised concerns about his physical and mental decline. In July 2024, he dropped out of the race following a poor debate performance, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, who later lost to Trump.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, particularly in older age. The American Cancer Society notes that while it’s often treatable if caught early, it remains the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Hormone therapy, a standard treatment, can slow the disease but does not cure it.

Trump, now 79 and the oldest person ever elected president, underwent a medical checkup on Friday. His doctor reported he is in “excellent overall health.”
