Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci is set to attempt another historic culinary feat this Friday at Eko Hotel and Suites, where she plans to cook what she describes as the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice.
A video shared on her Instagram page Thursday captured the arrival of the massive cooking pot at the Lagos venue, setting the stage for what promises to be a monumental event. Another clip posted to her Snapchat story showed a heartfelt moment of prayer between Hilda and her mother as they prepared for the challenge.
Baci announced on Wednesday that more than 20,000 people had registered to attend the free event, officially titled the “Gino World Jollof Festival with Hilda Baci.” The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 12.
“This event is completely free,” she emphasized. “You won’t be paying for the amazing meal I’m going to make for you.”
The centerpiece of the record-breaking attempt will be a giant pot measuring six metres in width and height, developed in collaboration with seasoning and culinary brand Gino. According to Baci, she’ll be using 250 bags of rice to create the world’s largest serving of jollof rice.
The festival is expected to draw a massive crowd of food lovers, fans, and supporters eager to witness Hilda make culinary history once again. She previously made global headlines in May 2023 after completing a 100-hour cooking marathon, earning her a coveted Guinness World Record title.
