Kylian Mbappé has drawn level with Thierry Henry as France’s joint second-highest goalscorer after netting in Les Bleus’ 2–0 victory over Ukraine in Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The 26-year-old forward struck in the 82nd minute, taking his international tally to 51 goals—matching the legendary Thierry Henry. He now trails only Olivier Giroud, who tops France’s all-time scoring chart with 57 goals.
France solidified their position at the top of Group C with a dominant performance, while Ukraine struggled to create any real threat. The opener came early, courtesy of Michael Olise, who found the back of the net in the 10th minute.
Since making his international debut in 2017, Mbappé has rapidly become the face of French football. He burst onto the world stage at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, scoring four goals—including one in the final against Croatia—as France claimed their second world title.
At Qatar 2022, Mbappé cemented his global superstar status by winning the Golden Boot with eight goals, including a memorable hat-trick in the final against Argentina.
With Henry’s record now equalled, Mbappé will have the chance to move into outright second place on France’s all-time scoring list when Didier Deschamps’ side takes on Georgia in their next qualifier on Tuesday.
